MagniF

MagniF, produced from the natural iron oxide Magnetite, is the product range especially developed to be used as a functional filler in polymers and coatings.

MagniF is a very pure and fine powder milled from the natural mineral Magnetite mined and processed at our own group ressources in the north of Sweden. This relation ensures a long-term, reliable source of consistent quality material.

MagniF product uses

MagniF in polymers & rubber

MagniF is a functional filler for polymers and rubbers for a variety of applications, however a major one being the automotive industry. Due to its high solid density of 5.2g/cm³, MagniF is very well suited for making high density compounds. These provide good sound damping characteristics to automotive moulded parts and foams. Applications within the construction industry such as low-noise waste pipes can also take advantage of MagniF filled polymers.

Another advantage of MagniF’s high density within polymer parts is to impart the ‘quality-feel’ of a product. This way the addition into packaging parts e.g. for cosmetic bottle caps is another application.

Due to both, the high density and its ferri-magnetism, MagniF makes polymers becoming traceable. This becomes especially important for plastic parts used in the food industry to be able to find parts in the food before the consumer finds them. Particularly for this application LKAB Minerals have received food approval by FDA (US) and EC (Europe) for our MagniF F grades.

MagniF in coatings

Due to MagniF’s inherent ferri-magnetic properties, coatings including MagniF become magnet receptive. Base paints for interior wall application produces a surface that attracts and holds magnets. It can easily be painted over or be covered with wallpaper, due to it’s purity and strength, MagniF filled coatings stay magnet receptive.

Our MagniF product range is available in paper sacks or big bags. Due to the products conditions no bulk solution is available.

Magnetite origin

LKAB Minerals’ Magnetite is mined from our own group resources. The LKAB mines are located in Kiruna and Malmberget in the northern part of Sweden. The iron ore is mined and milled at the mine site and railed to one of two ports - Luleå in Sweden or Narvik in Norway. The ports are part of the LKAB Group logistics structure and are operated all year round. LKAB Minerals supply from these ports and from strategic stocks at various locations around the world.

Magnetite toxicology

Magnetite is inert, will not rust and does not degrade with time or usage. It is ferri-magnetic and for that reason will be attracted by a magnet. This natural mineral can be recovered, recycled and reused over and over again.
