The expansion project at Minelco Ltd’s Flixborough site is moving forward rapidly.
The development of the refractory business for the Minelco group has been tremendous in recent years. The need to expand the production facilities in the UK soon became apparent. Minelco Ltd’s project team put the plan for expansion together which management approved. The next step was to obtain planning permission for the new processing area, laboratory and warehousing facilities required.
More refractory capacity in the UK
Ian Booth, Flixborough’s Operations Manager, says “the increased production facilities will enable us to absorb new business and respond quickly to customer requests”. Commercial Director for Minelco Ltd Stan Franey and his European sales team are working on several projects with major players in the refractory industry. This additional capacity will be of great benefit. Stan feels “this new facility will attract many global companies into becoming strategic partners with Minelco.”
Melvyn Bradley, Minelco Ltd’s Technical Manager, is co-ordinating the technical facilities that will be built. He says “we will equip the new lab to carry out a range of tests on refractory products. This will ensure we meet strict customer QC requirements. We will also have ability to carry out R&D on refractory products. Minelco can do so in conjunction with strategic partners in the refractory industry.”
The project is ontime; the groundwork at the site has commenced and we are on target to start the structural building work in November.
