Utilising recycled material in the production of refractories was a hot topic at the AISTech conference in Indianapolis, USA this month.
The Iron and Steel Technology Expo was held over 3 days ( May 5th – 8th) and provided LKAB Minerals an opportunity to showcase our recycled refractory portfolio and range of refractory services from toll processing, layering and blending to technical expertise and refractory reclamation.
Our stand generated a lot of interest in recycling spent materials, a market which is currently in its early stages in the USA. Utilising recycled refractory material is not only sustainable, but is also a quality, cost efficient alternative to virgin raw materials.

John Kingston, Business Development Manager for the USA and a member of the stand personnel commented ‘This exhibition proved very beneficial for us. The interest in the recycling of refractories has been fruitful and there will be some exciting partnerships come out of this event.’
‘It is in our Strategic Plan to become a major supplier of recycled materials in the USA’ says Stan Franey, Commercial Director and Business Area Manager for Refractories and Foundries. ‘ This exhibition was a stepping stone towards achieving this goal’.
Due to the level of interest LKAB Minerals gained at this event, we will be exhibiting there again in 2015. Look out for us!
The conference AISTech and expo, held every year, sees around 8,000 visitors over the 3 days. Topics ranged from Health and Safety to Steel Casting and Refining.
