Halogen-free FR filler for cables presented to US market

UltraCarb has a unique 3-stage fire retardant mechanism. It is used as a fire retardant filler in a wide range of polymers such as polyethylene (PE), polypropylene (PP), polyvinyl chloride (PVC) and rubber.

On June 17 and 18 over 150 delegates at the AMI Polymers in Cables conference listened to a story about an interesting natural mineral halogen-free fire retardant.

The annual two-day conference, held in Philadelphia, US, is an important meeting place for the cable industry; bringing together cable producers, raw material suppliers, and equipment manufacturers. The event provided lively interaction between the international panel of speakers and delegates.

LKAB Minerals’ Business Development Manager for Polymers & Coatings, Dr. Chris DeArmitt, spoke about UltraCarb, a fire retardant comprised of the naturally occurring minerals hydromagnesite and huntite (HMH). Chris also presented other natural mineral solutions including our high density product MagniF and very high aspect ratio Mica products.

Our exhibition stand gave the ideal chance to network with our knowledgeable team; Ian Yates and Chris. The attendees came from across the globe which gave the conference the international character we are aiming for. “The delegates were keen to get more information on the mineral solutions I spoke about in my presentation, especially the compounding possibilities,” Chris said afterwards. “The high amount of serious interest through the newly created, very fine grade LH3 stood out. Even companies who know about UltraCarb left inquiries for samples to try this finer grade with a better top-cut.”
