The Next Generation of Raw Materials for Coatings

LKAB Minerals were proud to be part of a very well attended and informative conference led by the BCF with support from the PRA looking for a sustainable future for the raw materials for this industry.

The British Coatings Federation (BCF) are driving the technical agenda for the coatings industry; part of that agenda has to cover the raw materials used within the coatings industry. The next generation of raw materials looks towards a sustainable future to identify ways in which manufacturers can produce safer, greener paint products.

A number of leading organisations as well as smaller innovative SMEs presented papers covering a diverse range of topics including Clariant’s ‘New generation of organic pigments for sustainable paint production’, Dyrup’s ‘Bio based wood coatings’ and Cellucomp’s ‘New additives for Paints & Coatings from sustainable sources’.

LKAB Minerals presented our natural minerals solutions on a table top exhibition to the 40+ delegates at the conference with Mark Smit, our Coating Technical Sales Manager, highlighting our natural halogen free fire retardant mineral product UltraCarb. The diverse ways in which our mineral solutions can be used in the coatings industry led to many interesting parties. Ray Bent, for example, talked decorative effects for automotive coatings whilst Mark spoke about lubricity requirements and Seleena highlighted the natural iron oxide product MagniF which has inherent ferri-magnetic properties.

It was a pleasure to be part of the forward thinking conference and to showcase our sustainable mineral solutions to the British coatings industry.
