The LKAB Minerals team had a successful ONS show in Stavanger where they presented ballasting solutions for the offshore industry.
As confirmed by the organizers, ONS brought together almost 66,000 visitors from over 40 countries in Stavanger, Norway. This large turnout was noticeable to our team who had four exciting and full exhibitions days.
“All large and important Oil and Gas companies were at ONS. But in addition, I noticed that renewables are now a much larger portion of the total show than I have seen in previous offshore events. More companies focus on this part of the energy generation industry. Wind, sun and hydro power are seen as an important part of the future energy market.” Bas Sotthewes, Business Development Manager for LKAB Minerals says. He continues, “The Hywind Scotland Pilot Wind Farm project is one of the offshore projects we are currently involved in. We supply over 5200 metric tonnes of MagnaDense, high density mineral to ballast the floatable foundations. Many visitors are aware of this project and this reference was a good way to start the conversation.”
Extra weight for your offshore projects
The energy industry is often in need of a lot of weight to keep offshore structures in place and to ballast them in such a way it resists the heavy currents of the seas. Weight and dimensions are closely related and an optimal design often asks for a specific ballast solution such as our MagnaDense. This heavy mineral, mined from owned sources in Northern Sweden, is used both as loose ballast and as an aggregate for heavy concrete in a wide variety of offshore constructions.
Ballasting weight solutions for offshore, using MagnaDense are found in:
- GBS (= Gravity based structures)
- Wind turbine foundations – both gravity based and floatable
- Concrete weight pipe coated pipelines
- Concrete mattresses
- Seabed anchors
- Floating oil platforms
- Coastal and erosion protection
Depending on your specific application, MagnaDense can be reclaimable as shown in the recollection and reuse of our iron oxide after more than a decade in subsea condition from the Draugen Floating Platform in 2015.
Wind Energy Hamburg; the next energy exhibition worth visiting
By the end of this month, from 27 to 30 September 2016, there is a show dedicated to wind power; Wind Energy Hamburg is the place to be. LKAB Minerals will be there to spread the word on the advantages of using MagnaDense for ballasting offshore wind projects.
Our international team of technically skilled Business Development Managers are there to show you samples in different grades of high density MagnaDense and to talk about the benefits your next offshore wind project could encounter when ballasting with our product.
We look forward meeting you in Hamburg, Germany soon.
