We go the extra mile to support WaterAid

At LKAB Minerals all employees are walking, running, swimming and biking around the world, and for each mile we will donate 1 euro to the charity.

We call it the “Around the World Challenge” and the idea came about when we decided to celebrate 25 years since being founded as a company. We asked ourselves how we could celebrate in a way that was aligned with our strategic plans that focus on sustainability, bringing people together and promoting employee health. That was how we decided to enable all our employees to run, walk, swim or bike and that each mile would have the added value of donating 1 euro to WaterAid. At the end of it, when our combined miles total the distance around the world we will celebrate our 25 years and everyone’s participation to the good cause.

The selection of WaterAid as the recipient of our donations was easy. First and foremost they are doing an incredible and important job and secondly we also sell minerals for water treatment, although that is for an industrial technology not commonly used in the projects sponsored by WaterAid.

@ WaterAid

WaterAid is a non-profit organisation devoted to bringing safe water and sanitation to the world’s poorest communities. 748 million people don’t have access to safe water and 2.5 billion don’t have access to adequate sanitation. This has massive implications for the affected people. Did you know that the water and sanitation crisis is the second biggest killer of children under five years old world wide?

WaterAid works with the local communities to bring about sustainable and long term improvements. Not only do they help save the lives of people and improve the quality of life. Safe water and sanitation is also a means of enabling development of the society. For every $1 invested in water and sanitation, an average of $4 is returned in increased productivity.
