At the Floating Offshore Wind UK event, LKAB Minerals met with professionals, explaining advantages of using MagnaDense ballast in offshore wind farms.
Co-organised by RenewableUK and Scottish Renewables, the event took place at the AECC in Aberdeen and provided an opportunity to learn more about current progress and future projects in the sector besides meeting with offshore wind professionals.
Experienced in offshore ballast supply
MagnaDense is used in the construction of offshore wind structures for gravity bases and floating platforms. It is supplied as a ballast or as an aggregate in high density concrete, to provide stability by lowering the centre of gravity or stabilising offshore structures. The most recent floating offshore construction project to use MagnaDense is Hywind, where 5 Spar-like structures were placed off the coast of Scotland. Both loose ballast and heavy concrete were used for this project.
