White powder on glass dish feldspar

The minerals form in a variety of thermal environments, during the crystallization of liquid rock (magma), by metamorphism of rocks deep in the earth, and in sedimentary processes.

LKAB Minerals' Feldspar is a plagioclase feldspar (Sodium Feldspar).

Feldspar applications

  • Feldspar as valuable ingredient for the glass industry

    Feldspar in the glass industry

Feldspar is a valuable ingredient in glass sand batch making up around 10 to 15% of the batch. The main reasons that sodium feldspar is used in this application is due to the alumina content and the minerals ability to act as a flux.

The alumina content of sodium feldspar is over 19%, this provides the glass with impact and thermal shock resistance. Feldspar as a fluxing agent enables the glass manufacturer to reduce the melting temperature of the quartz in the sand batch enabling control of the glass' viscosity.

  • Feldspar for paints & coatings

Furthermore feldspar can be used in paints, plastics, ceramic flooring, fritz and glazes.

Feldspar standard grades

LKAB Minerals Feldspar is available in the following as standard:

  • PREM600
  • KS63

Other grades may be available on request. Contact us to find out more.

Feldspar packaging

Feldspar available in 25 kg paper sacks, 1,000 kg bulk bags or as bulk as standard.

The typical properties of Feldspar are:

Chemical properties of Feldspar

Al2O3 [%] 19.88
SiO2 [%] 66.89
Na2O [%] 10.85
P2O5 [%] 0.20

Feldspar mineral origin
