Floating Offshore Wind is the future | LKAB Minerals

At the Floating Offshore Wind UK event, LKAB Minerals met with professionals, explaining advantages of using MagnaDense ballast in offshore wind farms.

Co-organised by RenewableUK and Scottish Renewables, the event took place at the AECC in Aberdeen. This event provides an opportunity to learn more about current progress and future projects in the sector. Also, it initiates meetings with offshore wind professionals.

Experienced in offshore ballast supply

The industry uses MagnaDense in the construction of offshore wind structures for gravity bases and floating platforms. Hereto, we supply this as a ballast or as an aggregate in high density concrete. MagnaDense provides stability by lowering the centre of gravity or stabilising offshore structures. The most recent floating offshore construction project to use MagnaDense is Hywind. Here the company placed 5 Spar-like structures off the coast of Scotland. They used both loose ballast and heavy concrete for this project.

The future for offshore wind energy
