Our customers, the offshore pipeline companies, mix MagnaDense into high-density concrete, which they apply to the pipelines and provide a heavyweight coating. Alternative subsea pipeline protection is concrete mattresses for which dense concrete is also used. Using our natural mineral in CWC coating for offshore pipelines will create more weight with less volume. Applying high-density concrete on pipelines reduces the concrete volume by up to 50%. Alternatively, it increases in weight by 80% while keeping the equivalent strength to standard concrete.
Our customers, manufacturers of coated pipelines, use two different techniques to apply heavy concrete as a coating to the pipelines.
Independent of the application method you prefer, MagnaDense is suitable for both. The coarse aggregate increases the weight of concrete. This ensures your concrete-coated pipes remain at the bottom of the sea and give mechanical protection.
When preparing heavy-density concrete for your pipelines, remember that MagnaDense replaces sand and gravel, but other concrete ingredients remain the same. Moreover, you can use standard concrete mixing equipment. Ultimately, the density of the concrete will vary depending on pipeline diameter and sea depth. Therefore, the average density for pipeline coating ranges between 3.2 and 3.4 t/m3.
