Bring your soil test results to LAMMA ’23 at the NEC, 10 – 11 January 2023, to get free advice from LKAB Minerals’ Technical Advisor and Agronomist.

In a season where foraging and harvesting have been difficult and delayed due to the recent wet weather, it is tempting to postpone some tasks which are essential to the well-being of the soil and future crops. However, there’s never been a better time to test and understand the condition of your soil.

Book an appointment at LAMMA ’23 with LKAB Minerals’ Technical Advisor and Agronomist, Mark Tripney. Mark will be on hand to interpret your soil test results and recommend how to improve your soil condition.

Why is it so important to test your soils?

With the cost of sampling being so small compared to the potential benefits, you should go beyond a basic soil test. A Broad Spectrum Analysis, which includes Calcium, CEC (Cation Exchange Capacity), and micronutrients, enables an understanding of the balance between critical elements.

If your soil pH levels have fallen below pH6, 48% of phosphate can become locked up and 11% of nitrogen is wasted. When used correctly, a lime application that optimises pH could give you a payback of up to 4:1. For example, a case study conducted on the use of Calcifert lime on grassland silage in Scotland saw a spend of £1,440 over two years on Calcifert Lime. This led to an increased profit of £5,760 on increased silage bale production over the same period. We have several Case Studies available for you with such detailed information.

Therefore, the key to maintaining soil health is having your soil results interpreted correctly to ensure you are applying the right products for your soil.
