Olivine’s properties vary depending on the levels of its two main components forsterite (Fo) and fayalite (Fa). It is named after its olive green colour.

Olivine is a naturally occurring silica-free material of low specific density. It has applications across construction and high temperature minerals industry applications. It is suitable for a wide range of applications, for example as a slag conditioner, refractory raw material, foundry & blasting sand, and high friction surfacing. Other than these, it can also be used for gunning, tundish linings, animal feeds, and other horticultural applications.

Standard grades

LKAB Minerals’ Olivine is available in the various different grades, as displayed below:

  • 5-8mm (-8+5mm)
  • 3-5mm (-5+3mm)
