LKAB Minerals awarded an EcoVadis Gold medal for fourth consecutive year

News May 2, 2023

The independent analysis company EcoVadis has once again awarded LKAB Minerals a Gold Medal for our work in sustainability. The LKAB Minerals group is rated as advanced in all EcoVadis areas (Environment, Labour & Human Rights, Ethics and Sustainable Procurement).

“Receiving the EcoVadis gold medal is very gratifying for us and a clear proof of our ambitious and persistent work to constantly develop a sustainable business. Since 2019, we have annually improved our score from 66 points to 73, which is the result of systematic improvement work and committed employees”, says Anders Lundgren, Chief Sustainability Officer, business area Special Products.

EcoVadis annually assesses companies’ sustainability work based on criteria within the environment, work environment, human rights, ethics and sustainable procurement. EcoVadis has audited more than 60,000 companies globally. Only 5% of the companies audited by EcoVadis achieve the gold level.

The improvement in our score reflects the work carried out across the LKAB Minerals Group to provide further evidence on sustainability policies, coupled with our work to reduce CO2 emissions from our energy use and GHG emissions. On a local level, this includes procuring renewable energy wherever possible, updating old plant equipment to new energy-efficient models, and changing from diesel to biofuels where electrification isn’t possible.

We’re committed to continuous improvement, and an analysis of the Ecovadis results is underway to identify opportunities to improve our practices. The journey towards achieving an Ecovadis Platinum rating has already begun!
